A beautiful bride and handsome groom who are so nice and easy-going (we love it when everything just clicks with our couples). A fun and creative vision for their wedding. Superb service from the venue and support staff (really, everyone at The Westin Calgary went above and beyond). Plus, this wedding was featured on one of Canada’s top wedding magazine blogs — what a treat!

 

The Bride & Groom

Jenn and Kirk are busy professionals in Calgary as well as entrepreneurs (check out their pizza place: Bro’s Dough).  Because that wasn’t keeping them busy enough, they decided to plan their wedding and hunt for a new home too!  They knew they needed support.

On their list of must-haves was a formal, elegant wedding.  Inspired by the Great Gatsby and the Classic palette of black, white and gold with touches of purple thrown in, Jenn was armed with photos of feathers and plumes, and candelabra details.  She knew what elements she was attracted to, but didn’t know how to necessarily pull it all together.

That’s when she and Kirk came to Evelyn Clark Weddings for help in designing and coordinating their wedding.

 

The Wedding

Jenn and Kirk chose to do a “First Look” after getting ready with their wedding party at The Westin.  After that, they spent some time around downtown Calgary getting their photos taken in spots like The River Cafe where Kirk proposed.

The traditional Greek Orthodox wedding ceremony was held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox church (we planned Georgia & JC’s wedding there too) with friends and family in attendance.  We were lucky that the weather held out for their wedding photos before the Ceremony because the snow and wind started just as they were exiting the church.  Despite the drastic change in weather, guests stuck around to toss rose petals during their grand exit as a married couple.

 

 

The Reception

Designing this wedding reception allowed us to flex some creative muscles.  Jenn and Kirk wanted something different for their floor plan, so we proposed a composition of both square and round tables, with the Head Table placed in the middle in long, rectangle form to accommodate their large wedding party.

The guest tables were Classic white and black, with different charger plates and napkin folds for the square and round tables.  The tall centrepieces included Jenn’s beloved plumes combined with white orchids in tall, gold candelabras.  The low centrepieces were classic hydrangea and roses placed in mirrored vases for extra flash.

What newlyweds don’t want to stand out?  We used gold sequin linens for Head Table and lined their florals and candles down the middle.  Behind the Head Table was a purple, ivory and gold sweet table filled with macarons and a cutting cake.  This was also close to the dance floor and lounge area so guests could re-fuel quickly during their dance breaks.

For a bit of extra flair, Kirk had arranged for Greek dancers to perform as a surprise to guests.  Dancing is integral to Greek weddings, and it was a great opportunity for everyone to take part in the culture.

We had so much fun with this couple.  Their energy and positivity was endearing, and they are just so sincere and nice.  Jenn and Kirk, thanks again for allowing us to be a part of your wedding experience!
