“The Show Must Go On” — these words have never been more true in light of the Local State of Emergency that Calgary is currently under.
Lucky enough, Evelyn Clark Weddings has not had to relocate any of our weddings planned for this wedding season. However, we understand that many couples were not this lucky. If you are facing wedding relocation due to flooding at your original venue, please feel free to contact us to see how we can help.
In the meantime, there is an importance of getting back to routine (as long as we are staying out of the way of emergency personnel!), so let’s continue with a regular blog post:
As wedding season is in full swing, I thought it might be fun to share with you my essentials for surviving the wedding day.
Wedding day essentials for an Evelyn Clark Weddings wedding planner
1. A tailored dress
I used to exclusively wear a black suit to my weddings. Not anymore! I love dresses and try to wear one as often as possible casually and for dressing up. I feel most like “me” when I wear a dress, so I have made the switch. Most of my wedding day dresses are more tailored though — I don’t want to be mistaken for a guest and I still need to look professional.
2. Emergency-kit pouch
I guess this could be called a fanny pack, but I never wear it like that. This kit is on my body all day during a wedding. Inside are the essentials: scissors, tape, pins, blotting paper, etc. I also have a larger emergency kit filled with every kind of tape (tape is a hot commodity on the wedding day) and many other random items that you could possibly need.
3. MAC lipstick
As the wedding planner, every problem or comment is addressed to me on the wedding day. So no matter how harried things get, I have to be and look calm and presentable. Enter, lipstick for instant polish. The fact that it’s MAC is just my personal preference, although NARS is entering the race…
4. Sensible loafers
I admit that I would much rather be wearing heels, but that’s just not realistic for me for most weddings. While I’m a wedding planner in Calgary, I also do weddings out in the Rocky Mountains area, which sometimes means that I am walking in grassy fields and gravel…heels are a disaster. My compromise is sensible loafers, which I find more comfortable than ballet flats. I would be lying if I said that my feet didn’t hurt anyway at the 9th hour of running around, but I cannot wear runners (this goes for my every day life too — runners are for going on a run).
5. Sparkly phone
Ok, so my phone doesn’t have to have a sparkly case to function better — but it certainly makes me happier seeing how this is glued to my ear and/or hands on the wedding day. Plus, if I do put it down somewhere, I can spot it easily.
There you have it. I know this is definitely a more lighthearted post in terms of wedding planning, but hopefully it gives you insight into me as a person and how I operate on wedding days. Plus, I think we could all use a little lightheartedness right now!
Good luck in the traffic out there, and if you get a chance, please volunteer for the clean-up of Calgary. I was able to get out for a few hours to help out, and was astounded at the generosity of strangers and the sheer number of people donating items, equipment and blood & sweat. It’s very much worth your time!
