The duo behind Scott Gage Photography are the husband and wife team of Scott and Jaime.

Scott and Jaime have a Classic, timeless quality to their photos. They emphasis authenticity, which means that they want your wedding to be captured in a natural way — no artificial posing, no creating false “photo moments”. Just you, relaxed and at ease and in the moment.

What or who got you started in wedding photography?

We fell in love with the art of photography on the same trip to Italy and when we got home a friend of ours saw our images and asked us to photograph her wedding. We loved the artistic side of wedding photography but more than that, we loved spending the whole day with the bride and groom and serving them to help make their day amazing and to tell the story of their day. To this day it is the relational aspect of the job that we love most!

What is your favourite part of the wedding day to capture?

Our favorite part of a wedding day is when an amazing, genuine moment happens and so it varies greatly from wedding to wedding. Sometimes it is a father seeing his daughter in her dress for the first time, sometimes it is a look exchanged between the bride and groom during their ceremony or the excitement shared during portraits, sometimes it is laughter or tears at the reception as families and friends celebrate together. These genuine moments are what really tell the story of a wedding and are what we love most.

How do you make a bride and groom feel relaxed in front of the camera?

By being ourselves and giving them a great experience. If we want our couples to be relaxed and authentic then we must be that way as well. When we give our couples freedom to be themselves and allow them to be awkward and goofy then they have fun and we get images that are natural, authentic and personal.

What are your Top 3 tips for brides and grooms to get the best wedding photography experience?

1- Hire photographers that you like. You will spend more time on your wedding day with your wedding photographers than anyone else including eachother so you should want to spend time with them. We are very aware that a huge part of our job is to be fun and to make sure that our couples have amazing experiences.

2- Trust your photographers. If you love your photographers’ work and have trusted them enough to book them then trust their ideas. Great images come from true inspiration which is rarely created by a bunch of images found on Pinterest. There is nothing wrong with a bit of input of course but photographers have worked hard to develop a style and an artistic sensibility that may not mesh with images taken by a different photographer.

3- Relax and have fun! Make decisions in advance of your wedding that allow you to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible on your day. (Evelyn’s note: So true! Make your final payments before the wedding day, and have a coordinator to answer questions from guests and vendors). If you are stressed and worried it will come across in your images. We always do engagement sessions so that our couples will know exactly what to expect on their wedding day and so they trust us to make images that they will love for years to come — this allows them to relax on the day and have fun.
