One of my goals as a wedding planner in Calgary is to help busy couples live their lives without their wedding taking over. Calgary is filled with busy professionals, and it’s just a fact that many couples need to juggle demanding careers, active lifestyles and time to spend our (sometimes rare!) sunny days on a patio with friends and family. Throw in planning a wedding, and your head might just burst.
Guess what? It’s the same for a wedding planner.
Balancing a business, family, an active lifestyle and hobbies (let’s be honest — I have a hard time not “doing something”) is just as tough for me as my clients. But just as I do my best to give my clients the freedom to live their lives sans wedding 24/7, I really should be taking my own advice.
That being said, I have been trying (and sometimes failing) to not respond to emails after 6pm and not work at all on Sundays.
While my clients know my policies, I find myself sending emails past my hours anyway…just to check one thing off the list…again.
So, I am posting this to keep myself accountable. During wedding season (ack!).
Clients, feel free to chastise me if I’m responding to you outside of my regular hours. One of the brides I’m working with did, actually (thanks Jackie!), and you know what? I wasn’t reading that email until the next morning. Colleagues and friends please do the same. Naturally, we all want to go above and beyond for our clients — and, of course, sometimes you have to break the rules — but I think we all know that everyone will benefit from taking time to unplug from work.
Here’s proof of me sticking to my word via my Instagram (enjoying the sun on my deck instead of doing one last thing on my computer):
