Turquoise cupcake table

I’m back from our Thanksgiving weekend trip back to Regina — I hope all of you had a wonderful Canadian Thanksgiving! We went back to my hometown for our friends’ wedding reception where I made and set up a turquoise cupcake table…but you should know that if you were following me on Twitter 😀

Chelsea and Mitch asked me to make the cupcakes, first and foremost, which is a change for me as I don’t usually make the desserts on my tables, so I definitely had to consider the logistic challenges in this request as it is an 8-hour drive from Calgary to Regina, and we would not be arriving into town until 24 hours before the reception. Not to mention that I had to bring all of my cake stands and plates too because I was not sure what the venue would be able to provide — call me paranoid, but I would rather know what I am working with…thus, the 2 large totes full of carefully wrapped stands, ribbon, paper, etc. in the backseat of our car…Eek!

Not to worry though — everything (almost) went off without a hitch thanks to some excellent daily prep work days before taking off, smart packing and, you know, hauling my stand mixer and icing tools all the way to Regina! Thank goodness I had my mom helping out (and she supplied the giant cardboard boxes we needed to haul all 120 cupcakes to the venue) and my Hubby to keep me sane.

Unfortunately, my camera is not quite up to snuff and cannot take photos very well in dimly lit venues, so please accept that these photos are not pro:

Instead of just making one flavour of cupcake with the same turquoise coloured icing, I provided variety by baking three different flavours:
– chocolate
– vanilla with chocolate chips
– vanilla
…with a different tint of turquoise vanilla buttercream to distinguish the flavours and add interest to the overall dessert table “look”

Not to toot my own horn, but the cupcakes were met with rave reviews, and I must say that they were probably the best batch up cupcakes I have made to date! I don’t usually eat my own work after it is all completed…something about putting all that effort into designing and making just makes me not want to eat…so I really rely on friends and family to give me honest reviews. I’m so happy that I was able to use my talents to share with friends during such an important event in their lives…and I’m also really glad that I was able to pull it off!

I made themed sugar cookies for her bachelorette party too — check it out here!
