You saw a sneak peek of Silvia and Dean’s wedding published in Blush Magazine’s S/S 2016 issue. Now we’re thrilled to be able to share more photos with you as well as the inspiration behind this design.
Time flew by when we were planning this wedding! Silvia and Dean knew they wanted a Banff wedding and needed a Banff wedding planner so that they could enjoy their engagement while still participating in the fun wedding things like picking out decor.
The inspiration
Everything started with Laduree macarons and their branding. Silvia had a specific set of photos she felt evoked her vision, and we also wanted to include hints of retro, Mad Men flavour. Top it all off with Parisian refined whimsy, sophisticated touches, lots of colour, and we had a Classic yet fun wedding at the Rimrock Resort Hotel.
Take a look at the inspiration I pulled together for them:
The wedding details
Your wedding invitations are your guests’ first glimpse into your wedding. Plush Invitations did an amazing job, as always, tying in the Laduree look. These are one of my favourite designs, ever.
Side note: I was feeling ill the night we were supposed to meet for our stationery meeting, so I sent Alissa all the information she needed to do the meeting without me and apologized to Silvia and Dean. Little did I know that I was going to welcome my daughter into the world that night!
Silvia has exquisite taste. You can tell by the simple but intricately detailed lace Reem Acra wedding dress she picked out + the jewelled hair piece and her Chanel pumps. You can’t see it in the photo, but there is a pearl at the heel of the shoe!
The ceremony
Held in the Wildrose ballroom, Silvia and Dean got married with the mountains as the backdrop and their stunning colourful florals from Flower Artistry as accents.
The reception
Colour was the strong theme here. Silvia and Dean wanted to make their mark at the Rimrock, so we made sure to splash colour in the room while maintaining a tasteful, Classic sensibility. Accents of gold were used wherever possible, and the Rimrock’s banquet chairs were great for adding a retro 50s touch to the decor.
The wedding was a lovely, fairly intimate size of 86. You could feel that everyone knew each other and were there to celebrate. The toasts were heartfelt, and one of my favourites was Silvia’s dad who had a witty sense of humour and got lots of laughs.
The Laduree inspired macarons table
The macarons table was a highlight. After all, the whole wedding was inspired by macarons, so I knew the design had to be really special. I hand-painted the boxes and used florals, tea cups and satin ribbon to re-create the whimsical, elegant look of Laduree’s signature displays.
Chinese Tea Ceremony
As per tradition for Chinese brides, Silvia and Dean had a Tea Ceremony. This is a ceremony where the bride and groom pour and serve tea to their family members and elders as a sign of respect. In return, the elders typically offer jewellery (heirloom or new) or cash in red envelopes to the newlyweds as well as words of advice for their marriage. Typically, the Tea Ceremony is done in private, but Silvia and Dean went away from tradition and chose to do the ceremony after dinner in front of their guests. It was a great chance for everyone, especially non-Chinese guests, to experience tradition and see what a Tea Ceremony is all about!
It was a sincere pleasure to work with such an easy-going and adorable couple as Silvia and Dean (I won’t forget seeing Silvia strolling into the ballroom in her Toms and holding her Chanels). Thank you for trusting me and my team with your vision. Congratulations on your soon-to-be first anniversary and your new home!
