With wedding season in full swing here in Calgary, we want to talk about how to word your RSVP card to prevent unexpected guests at your wedding.
Ask any bride or groom, and they will probably tell you that tracking RSVPs from their guests was a stressful experience. From guests texting their responses 1 week before the wedding, to guests bringing surprise +1s, managing your guest list can be difficult.
Here’s a wedding planner tip on how to make it clear who, and how many, you are inviting to your wedding.
How to word your RSVP card to prevent unexpected wedding guests
It is crucial to set up your RSVP card with the correct wording. There are many examples of how to word RSVP cards, from formal to whimsical, but we have found that this way is the simplest for couples and their guests.
Here’s an example we created:
All you have to do is write in the number of people you are inviting in the blank space of the “We have reserved___seat(s) in your honour”. And, hopefully, your guests will be able to fill out the number that are attending as well as the names of those attendees.
We find that this works well to let guests know the exact number you are inviting. This also works well when you are not inviting children to your wedding.
For extra precaution, try this classic wedding RSVP trick of numbering your RSVP cards and assigning numbers to your guests. This way, you have a way of connecting the mystery, no-name RSVP card to one of your guests.
Please keep in mind that this is not fool-proof! With a decline in the formal etiquette of RSVP-ing to any event, guests may still not return these cards nor fill them out completely. You may need to make calls long after the RSVP date and track down certain guests. With these two tricks though, you should have a much easier time managing your guest list and save you the headache of RSVP disaster!
