I really admire bridal designers because they must struggle sometimes to keep re-inventing the “bridal” look. With bridal, it is not like you can stray too far away from the more typical formula as there is usually a certain style or feeling associated with wedding dresses and bridal fashion, in general.
The Fall 2012 collection, however, definitely brought some interest and spice to the designers’ work. There was plenty of short dresses, sexy dresses and even black (!) dresses seen on the catwalk. Romona Keveza had several short, but no less elaborate, dresses in her body of work and Monique Lhullier, usually associated with very feminine and romantic dresses, sent this slinky, slit up-to-there gown on her model. Vera Wang had everyone buzzing by showing 7 black dresses in her collection.
I chose these dresses for My Favourite Monday because I am intrigued by these risks taken by designers. I love the idea of the short dress for a less traditional bride and ceremony. The slit dress doesn’t actually shock me. I just associate it with a sexy bride who is more Red Carpet than White Carpet. I like the black gowns and their designs for a rock and roll, edgier bride, but I do love my lighter colour dresses…What are your thoughts on these more risqué choices by designers?
