Sarah and Jeff’s Spruce Meadows wedding in Calgary was one of the highlights of our wedding season. Large tree centrepieces, a clean and fresh decor style, horseback Grand Entrance and dogs in the ceremony too, this is one wedding our team won’t forget.

Spruce Meadows wedding venue

As the site where Sarah once worked as an event hostess, competes as an accomplished equestrian, and where Jeff proposed (names on the jumbo screen and everything), Spruce Meadows holds a dear place in this couple’s hearts. Naturally, it was a great choice to host their wedding.

Design + decor details

The colour scheme was inspired by Spruce Meadows itself: crisp white, boxwood green, champagne and gold. Wanting a fresh and simple but elegant look, we kept the linens simple and added the wow factor with modern gold chairs and show-stopping tall greenery trees on modern gold stands.

Hints of equestrian details were, of course, incorporated. Sarah created the stationery herself, adding in graphics of horses and the greenery theme to tie everything in.

The wedding day

The wedding ceremony took place at the picturesque staircase at Spruce Meadows. The weather had been a bit dicey, but the rain held off until immediately after the ceremony. Was this a logistical challenge? You bet, but we pulled it off!

Taking it a step beyond, Sarah made her horse a part of the Big Day. Not many people can claim to have made their grand entrance on horseback, wearing a wedding dress no less!

Guests dined family-style on the long tables with olive oil specially made by the bride and groom, catered by Great Events Catering. The night ended with lively dance. The set up here was a shift in tone. The dining portion was fresh and clean, but the dance’s mood was more like an LA party. We used tons of boxwood greenery, sleek white lounge furniture, and whimsical jumbo white beach balls and uplighting here to create the mood.
