My last blog post featured Gillian and Bino’s vibrant, modern wedding (click here if you missed it). Their wedding design was unique and such fun to design. I’m happy that when it came time to choose a Calgary wedding planner for their wedding, they chose to work with Evelyn Clark Weddings!
In this post, I’m giving you a peek into how everything came together for their wedding decor and design.
Wedding décor, Before & After — Calgary wedding planner and designer
We took great care to figure out the wedding decor for Gillian and Bino’s wedding. Gillian wanted colour and the use of hot pink (her favourite colour) with orange. But as our design developed, the colours got to be too bright and in-your-face for what Gillian envisioned. We toned it down by adding in classic simplicity with black and ivory. Our bright colours were kept as accents.
Tip: when working with a wedding designer, don’t be afraid to speak up! Our team of Calgary wedding planners want to know what you’re thinking and encourage open communication. If something isn’t working for you, explain how you feel. There’s no sense in pretending to like something or avoiding the situation. Just make sure you let everyone know early enough in the stages of wedding design…and don’t change your mind constantly either!
During one of our site-visits, we discussed where to put the traditional, long Head Table. We agreed that it would work best in front of the fireplace to create a nice flow in the room. The only issue? Bino didn’t love the fact that the fireplace would be off-center to the middle of the Head Table (aka, where he and Gillian would sit). And he was right. The fireplace and plants were confusing to the eye, adding clutter…not something you want associated with your Head Table. Do you see it here in this photo?
Our solution? Cover it up.
The pipe and draping hid the off-centered fireplace and also gave a nice resting place for the eye to focus solely on the people at Head Table.

Another “before” photo: these are the table linens we picked out, but see how lackluster the room looks without décor elements of flowers and lighting?
Gillian and Bino loved the lighting we used in Kirby & Jared’s wedding…:

…so lighting was definitely on the list of wedding “must-haves”. We also used lighting to highlight our gorgeous florals.

Since everyone loves a “Before” and “After” story, here’s one last look at the Reception room pre-décor:
…and now post-décor!
Quite a difference, right?
Your wedding style should be heightened by adding décor elements. Things like lighting and pipe & drape to create a focal point for the Head Table can raise the bar, bringing your wedding from “nice” to “wow!”. When done right, lighting instantly creates ambiance and adds a certain drama and luxury-effect to your wedding look.
