It was my husband’s birthday at the beginning of the month and instead of going out for a big dinner as we are prone to doing for celebrations, we decided to host our own casual get-together at our home. The theme was “Pub Night” where we made all the so-delicious-but-bad-for-you food favourites…but there was a twist on dessert.
Originally planning to make a decadent chocolate cake, I created a sundae bar instead for something a little more interactive and whimsical (plus, we still have a big hunk of chocolate cake in the freezer from my last random chocolate cake craving).
The trick to this sundae bar was making it masculine and fitting with the overall “pub” theme while keeping the whimsical spirit that is innate with any sort of Sweet Stylings Sugar Bar. I decided to create a very simple sundae bar with a “pub”-ish colour scheme (ie: no rainbow sprinkles) full of chocolate-y goodness and a sweet and salty taste. Please forgive the poor quality of these photos — it was late at night!
This DIY sundae bar was quick and fairly simple to create. If you’re in a pinch for a party activity or treat, or want something different and fun at your wedding, consider creating a DIY sundae bar. Gather some small bowls for your toppings, fun patterned paper (I love incorporating patterns in my designs — it really adds a dimension and depth) and get creative with display props.
I kept this sundae bar pretty simple, prop-wise, as we had all of this other pub food out, and I wanted to keep the flow of the bar easy. I focused on the great patterned paper and created Celtic-inspired stationery to go along with the Pub theme.

I can’t get over the creativity of using test tubes for holding sprinkles! Very “mad scientist” yet clean and modern — bravo.
