Classic elegant indoor Calgary wedding inspiration photo shoot

Calgary photographer Kristyn Harder approached me earlier this year to talk about creating a styled photo shoot winter wedding inspiration. I jumped on board right away because it’s always nice to spread out the weddings we work on throughout the year.

The problem? Calgary had an unusually warm winter, with little to no snow. So funny enough, that got us thinking. With the unpredictable weather in Calgary, you can’t underestimate the value of finding a versatile indoor venue for a wedding.

We wanted to highlight the transformation you can do to a venue to make it work for any season and any couple with a timeless, elegant look. With this in mind, we chose a Classic theme. The design was clean, polished elegance in a palette of white, nude, slate greys, mixed metals of gold and silver, and natural greenery.

Indoor wedding ceremony with lush florals

To balance the hard industrial style the venue, we used soft and refined details. Sequins, voluminous fabric, mixed metals, watercolour details, topped off with flowers that were structured yet loose for classic elegance.

The ceremony flowers really elevated the space! We wanted the florals to be like an arch, but not as structured. The climbing roses wall garland plus big blooms was perfect. And, of course, candlelight and rose petals are a classic way to add romance.

Large, unstructured bouquet with tons of greenery

These giant bouquets with tons of textured greenery are back in trend (this was popular in the early 1900s). We love the natural shape of this bouquet, and how it’s loose but not messy. Don’t the trailing ribbons look amazing when the bouquet is held?

Indoor wedding reception with a sweetheart table

What is more romantic and intimate than a sweetheart table for the newly married? This wedding was meant to be an elopement. Because of this, we focused on creating a beautiful and intimate spot for a bride and groom to dine and celebrate.

Don’t be scared to mix textures and metals! The table cloth is completely sequinned and I chose to add tulle on top to tie in the bridal skirt.

The wine glasses have a hand-painted flower motif to echo the florals. The champagne glasses are hand-lettered with “drunk in love” for a bit of fun.

We chose to feature vows instead of a wedding invitation since this was an elopement. Both the vows and the gorgeous yellow gemstone ring are designed and created by local artists.

And the cake! To mimic the sequins on the table cloth and the dip-dye of the vows, the cake layers had coconut for texture and a watercolour effect. All the details count!

Timeless wedding fashion and beauty

Our models, Filsan and Lukas, looked just stunning — I still can’t get over it.

Filsan’s hair was left in its natural form, but braided for a fun but tasteful up-do. The bridal separates allowed us to create our own dress, combining a constructed jewelled top with a bouncy skirt and dramatic long veil. Lukas was styled in the vein of Cary Grant as an understated, but elegant, complement to the show-stopping bride’s look.
