We are thrilled to share this stunning Spruce Meadows wedding with you!
Henrietta and Colter live in Fort McMurray but wanted to get married in Calgary so that nearby guests could attend. With its immaculate grounds and spacious and bright hall, Spruce Meadows’ Congress Hall was a great fit for Henrietta and Colter’s wedding vision of a modern cultural affair with hints of rustic elegance and wow-factor.
Because both bride and groom were busy individuals and planning from out-of-town, finding a Calgary wedding planner was imperative so that their wedding was exactly how they envisioned with as little effort on their part as possible. We’re so glad they chose us!
Wow-factor. Rustic, but glam and elegant details. African culture highlights. We’re thrilled that these details earned us a nomination for the Canadian Event Industry, ‘Star’ Award for ‘Best Wedding Under 75K’!
Spruce Meadows wedding ceremony
Held at the grand staircase just outside of the Congress Hall, the ceremony was held in the early afternoon on a mild summer day. Guests arrived, dressed in their African and Western finery, and were refreshed with fruit infused water as they waited for the ceremony to start. As Henrietta walked down the aisle, the African women started yelping and calling out in celebration. It was like nothing I have experienced before.
Spruce Meadows wedding reception
Guests dined on long, rustic-style wood tables lined with hundreds of perfectly placed floral arrangements, candles and candelabras. The effect was stunning, and this was the first time “farmhouse” style tables were used in Congress Hall.
After dining, guests were treated to a surprise. Henrietta’s mother, some friends and relatives changed into colourful, traditional African costumes and started a lively song and dance. The guests were not informed about what this dance would entail, so conversation came to an abrupt halt with the first chant and heads turned to see what was going on. The ladies came from seemingly nowhere, chanting loudly, singing, clapping hands and made their way to the dance floor. Everyone joined in the dance and celebration — the air was electric, and it was an unforgettable way to kick off the night’s party.
We’re thrilled to have been a part of such a spectacular event. I was especially happy to be on-site to see everything come together since I was 8-months pregnant for this wedding!
