I feel extremely blessed to have been able to work with a great couple like Lisa and Dan. These two are so obviously in love, in a very real way filled with laughter, support, close family and friends and a beautiful daughter they adore.
When Lisa came to me, she let me know that she and Dan had a clear vision in their minds of how they wanted to celebrate their love. Very intimate, lavish, romantic…and lots of flowers!
With such a strong starting point, I worked with Lisa to design a classic scheme of ivory, black and pink, with subtle damask print. We were on the same page about using bunches of baby’s breath for florals, chiavari chairs and long tables with tons of candlelight.
I knew we needed a venue that would showcase all of these elements while providing warm ambiance and terrific food and Teatro Ristorante was just that. Thanks to TLAW Photography for capturing the day in exactly the right way.
We worked with Sarah from Sarah Mayerson Design to create florals that were elegant, but could make jaws drop. We kept the ivory florals for the ceremony and introduced pinks for the reception to help direct the mood and indicate the shift in events. Sarah created stunning arrangements using unique vases — love, love, love — and was a fantastic help on the wedding day.
Lisa absolutely wanted a Sugar Bar, so my challenge was to create a design that would flow with her classic, romantic wedding design yet have the whimsy that goes along with a Sugar Bar full of sweets and candies. I used ivories and pinks, mostly, because black can show up on teeth…yuck!
I must say, Lisa and Dan’s crowd was really great — from their hilarious MC, the funny stories about Lisa’s past, to the folks that were ready to party! All the guests were such fun and truly appreciated this fantastic party, and I think this was because Lisa and Dan knew their audience.
While it is important to design a wedding of your dreams, it is important to keep your guest experience in mind. Are they a dancing crowd? Will they appreciate a 6 course, plated meal or would they prefer to mingle over cocktails and appetizers? Figure out your audience, and plan accordingly.
I loved the intimate details in this wedding: from Lisa’s sister-in-law creating the pretty stationery, to Lisa and Dan dancing to their daughter’s favourite song from “Wall-E”, you could tell that there was a lot of thought put into seemingly small aspects of the wedding.
Overall, the night was magical; with the soft glow of candlelight, beautiful decor, delicious food and romance in the air…just the way we planned it! I couldn’t have done it without my awesome team — Amanda and Tara — and supportive vendors.
Thanks again, Lisa and Dan, for letting me be a part of your celebration of love. More wonderful photos can be found on TLaw’s blog.
