A winter wedding with warmth at Fairmont Banff Springs
Rachel and Sam’s love story is one that gives hope for all of those long-distance couples out there. After falling in love in university, they encouraged each other to go after their dreams. Even if that meant living in different countries on opposite coasts and flying back and forth for years!
Naturally, this wedding needed to be romantic. Because the mountains hold a special place in their hearts, this Alberta boy and classy Texas-by-way-of-NYC actress chose Fairmont Banff Springs to host guests from all over the world.
Some of Rachel’s key words for their wedding were “warm” and “glow”. Though some winter weddings lean into the coolness of snowy whites, we wanted to create warmth. Dark reds, burgundy, winter greens and lots of mercury glass and metallic accents created a festive feel all styled with classic elegance.
And if you’re looking for a winter wedding photographer, Kirstie from Orange Girl has to be on your list!
Wedding ceremony in Ivor Petrak
Fairmont Banff Springs’ Ivor Petrak room is a lovely room for hosting a smaller indoor ceremony. The long room with arch windows overlooking the mountains feels intimate. Rachel actually liked that this room felt a bit like getting married in a church.
A flower arch to mimic the arch of the windows created a clear focal point against the asymmetry of the back wall. And adding an aisle runner in this room is a “must” to ground the design!
Mount Stephen Hall wedding reception
What can we say about this room? Mount Stephen Hall is probably the reason why most couples choose to get married at the Banff Springs! With its stone details and soaring ceiling, Mount Stephen is at once neutral and eye-catching.
For the floor plan, we used round tables but with a King’s Table and dance floor in the middle for a more traditional wedding feel. Rachel and Sam liked this layout and it is something different from what is typically done in Mount Stephen.
The flower arch from the ceremony served as a focal point for the Bride and Groom’s spots. The lanterns and garland dressed up the King’s Table at the base.
Rachel as a bride looked every inch the classic movie star and Sam looked the part of her leading Englishman. Guests came all the way from Texas, New York City, and the UK to celebrate Rachel and Sam’s love in the beautiful Canadian Rockies.
Rachel and Sam, it was a treat to work together (thank goodness for Google Hangouts facilitating the planning from opposite coasts) and we are so happy to have celebrated with you!
