Katie & Tom’s rustic elegance Banff wedding at the Rimrock Resort Hotel is beautifully understated with plenty of warmth and elegance.
Both the bride and groom often attend work conferences at hotels. Because of this, they wanted to make sure their wedding didn’t feel like another conference.
Our solution? Make the atmosphere warm, elegant and inviting. And, of course, incorporate personality — like Katie & Tom’s family, world travels and love of outdoors.
What better way to set the tone for your wedding than with your invitations? Below is their invitation suite, with their son’s very own invitation to “his” party during the reception dinner, plus table name cards with different travel stories from Katie & Tom, and the overall rocky mountain theme.

Geoff Wilking’s photography style was a perfect match for this wedding. We hope you enjoy the photos!
The ceremony
Planning a September wedding usually means that the weather will be warm, but not hot. Sometimes Mother Nature has other plans though. With a combination of freezing rain and sub-zero temperature the night before the wedding day, an indoor ceremony was the best option. While we didn’t get the majestic mountain backdrop, Katie and Tom were still happy to get married with their nearest and dearest staying dry and warm.
This quote was pinned to Katie & Tom’s Pinterest boards. I thought it was so appropriate for this well-traveled duo that we made it into a piece of art.
Here’s Katie and Tom’s little guy! We love that the kids at the wedding had their own special party room during dinner with kid-friendly food, movies and activities. This is a great way to give parents a child-free dinner but still allow kids to attend the wedding.
The Reception
Cafe lights for weddings are a very popular and beautiful way to add a little magic to your wedding venue (like you’re dining al fresco in a Tuscan garden). This look, however, just doesn’t suit a ballroom. Rather than force something to fit just for the sake of it, we chose to invest in other forms of lighting. Candlelight, tiny string lights and the wow-factor effects from Stardust Event Group created a similar atmosphere that suited the venue space while still giving Katie & Tom that warm glow.
Katie has a huge love of sweets, so a dessert table was a must. Tom wasn’t left out though! We created a “Man Table” — full of the greasy and salty (and delicious, let’s face it) food that he loves. The food came out as the party was really jumping, so you’ll have to excuse the poor quality photos from my phone camera. I had to post these though!
Congratulations again to this beautiful couple and their family!
