I was watching Sex and the City while running on the treadmill the other day, when I caught something interesting.
As you know from this post, I gravitate towards love quotes from the most random movies/shows.
This is the SATC episode where Charlotte and Harry get married (Season 6 – The Catch), and something Carrie says really spoke to me.
Charlotte, of course, was worried about every detail during her wedding. Things went hilariously wrong, but the panic I saw in Charlotte was something I recognize in brides on their wedding day. The obsession in details and having the “perfect” day overshadowed the joy of her wedding celebration.
Don’t miss out on your wedding day – Wedding planner Calgary (via Carrie Bradshaw)
The most poignant scene during Charlotte and Harry’s wedding took place in the washroom where Carrie and Charlotte have this conversation (start at 2:14 mark — FYI, could be NSFW!):
Carrie: “You just got married.”
Charlotte: “I know but I wanted everything to be perfect.”
Carrie: “Okay, you have to stop with the tears. You already had the perfect wedding and the marriage…not so perfect.” [referring to Charlotte’s first marriage]. You know I think this is a good sign. I think the worse the wedding, the better the marriage!”
Charlotte: “I have a stain on my dress.”
Carrie: “That’s good! That’s a good sign.”
Charlotte: “You’re just trying to make me feel better.”
Carrie: “No, I’m trying to get you to open your eyes because you’re missing it.”
Charlotte: “What?”
Carrie: “Everything. You’re missing your wedding. You have a wonderful man who loves you, who will be there to catch you when you fall. Do you know how special that is? I would love to find a man who’s strong enough to catch me. So, let’s get to that reception so you can fall in a cake or something.”
Brides, this cannot be more true.
Do you know how lucky you are? You’re getting married! You are declaring to the world that you want to spend the rest of your life with another person and celebrating with your favourite people.
But of course, staying focused on this is easier said than done. Most brides are thinking about the million+ things involved in the wedding day, and it’s natural to be concerned.
That’s why you need to join me next week as I share some tips on how not to miss out on your own wedding. Until next time…
